Actor, playwright, theatre director, poet and sometimes comedian. This multitalented performer started his performing, writing and directing career at Sophumelela Theatre Group. He holds a performing Arts certificate from New Africa Theatre Academy (2007). In 2015, Mbongeni co-directed “Izityhilelo Zobuze”, a production commissioned by Artscape Heritage Festival. In addition to co-founding the CYPHER (Cape Youth Poetry Hub for Expression & Rhythm) Programme, Mbongeni has run performance workshops at the annual St Georges Grammar school Art Jam. Organised. He also co-ordinated a Cape Town-Washington, D.C. Youth Poetry Exchange in 2015. In 2014, he featured in the InZync poetry sessions alongside Burni Aman (Godessa) and Luka Lesson (Australian Slam Champion), performed at 2 My Earth Community project fundraisers, featured at Bolo-Bolo’s “Poetics”, and performed in Kyle Louw’s “Why-Chromosome” at Zula Bar. He co-coordinated both the 2013 and 2014 Zabalaza Festival’s Naked Slam and Poetry Programme. He served as a panelist with Primrose Mrwebi and Janine Blaq Pearl in Open Book Festival’s 2014 Poetica Programme. Mbongeni co-ordinated the 2012 DFL Lover+Another Poetry Challenge. This multitalented performer is always willing to try new things and has special gift with words. He has written and directed four plays, of which "Bendingazi" featured at the 2009 National Arts Festival.
