Zama was born in Nyanga East, Cape Town, but grew up in Durban. He is a multi talented performer who has travelled internationally for his work. In 1998 after returning to Cape Town he joined Ilitha dance Group, where in 2000 he went to perform with them in China when Archbishop Desmond Tutu was awarded a peace award. In 2002 he joined the UCT school of dance where he majored in African Dance, in that same year he became part of Ama-Mbush marimba band where he ran workshops and did performances around the Western Cape and in Johannesburg. He has traveled with Delecta Groove to London in 2006-2007 to fundraise for homeless children in a shelter in Woodstock. In 2008 he performed in “Amakhosi” in London. In 2010 he went back to Ama-Mbush to travel with them to Sweden to perform on a 61 day cruise trip from Sweden to Finland, later that year he went back to Sweden for a cultural exchange programme. He has been performing with Lingua Franca since the second Naked Word Poetry Sessions and at the 2013 Zabalaza Mini festivals and Main Festival. He is now a dance and music co-coordinator at Rainbow Arts Organization in Delft. He recently travelled to China to perform at the Matzu International Festival.
